Blog 5: changes to study program

Hi everybody, today im going to talk about my career, and what I think that could be better on it. Actually I m cursing my last semester of visual arts in Universidad de Chile. This semester I have five subjects: English class, the art and psychoanalisis class, and arqueology class are my favourites. Mainly this subjects are about occidental philosophy and art theory. This career have a big part of practice, so I spent a lot of time on it. There is a lot of techniques that we can learn, and everyone have its own space to learn it, and also we can use some projectors and notebooks of the university if we need them.

In the first two years of the career, the teaching methods are more like traditional way, and it s a little bit boring, but in the third year the way we can create art is more free and emotional, and there is where the student have crisis, because we are comfortly prepared to the traditional way to learn.

I think something very important that we have to change on the career is the traditional ways that some teachers are teaching us. Is like an old way. If we get wrong in something, the say what is bad, but they don t teach about how to get better, and how to explore ourselves to do it better. This would be even dangerous to some students, because this generate stress and confusion and then they would get depressed. I really like, and I think we need, that the evaluation methods would be more like a constructivist method and more motivating, specially paying attention that a lot of sensible people are studying art.
